Lichtenberg Castle with museum and ramparts

Visit a fortress that has never been conquered!

Enthroned on a mountain ledge above the valley, and built as a summer residence by the landgraves of Hessen-Darmstadt in the 16th century, this renaissance castle was never conquered. The first building on the site, however, was the medieval seat of the Katzenelnbogen clan. On this guided tour, you will visit the knights‘ hall, the chapel and the arched hall, as well as the museum and the registry office. You can also climb (with the aid of a helmet and torch) the 15-metre-high lookout tower, from where you can enjoy a spectacular panoramic view.
